In dynamic demand as a recitalist and chamber musician, Chinese pianist Linus (Kaicong) Li is lauded for his “spontaneous yet delicate” command of the keyboard. Since beginning his musical journey at the age of four, he has been shaped by the transformative mentorship of Professors Xuemei Zheng and Qixun Zhou. His performance career has taken him across Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
Recent highlights include a sold-out recital debut at the Shanghai Concert Hall and performances at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He holds two prestigious diplomas from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), distinguishing him as one of the youngest candidates ever to receive such honors in mainland China. As an adjudicator, he has served on the panel of the 3rd Zhuhai Mozart International Music Competition as Assistant Director of the Young Jury in 2019.
In 2020, his lecture-recital series on Burgmüller Etudes with Prof. Xuemei Zheng, co-curated by the Guangdong Piano Association and Yamaha China, garnered critical acclaim within the pedagogical community. Equally active in collaborative projects, he has curated numerous piano duo recitals, including a residency at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music during the 2020–21 season.
Away from the piano, Li is a thoughtful program annotator and an active researcher. His scholarly interests focus on comparative studies of Eastern and Western music pedagogies, notably researched under the guidance of PI Dr. Henan Cheng at Teachers College, Columbia University, and his work has been featured in major educational conferences.
Li completed his undergraduate studies at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he is currently pursuing his master’s degree under the guidance of Australian-American pianist Corey McVicar. He has also distinguished himself in the masterclasses of Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Enrico Elisi, and Björn Lehmann, and continues to draw inspiration from Angela Hewitt’s musicianship.
